Self-Worth Counselling

You find yourself overthinking every interaction. Replaying conversations, wondering if you said the wrong thing. You hesitate to share your ideas as you wonder, “What if they’re not good enough? What if I’m not good enough?”

The perfectionism is exhausting. Double-checking everything. Taking on more than your share of work to prove your value. Saying yes when you want to say no. Making yourself smaller to avoid criticism. Code-switching so much you sometimes forget your own voice.

Lets build a different relationship with yourself isn’t just about positive self-talk or confidence exercises.

Burnout Counselling in Vancouver

People keep telling you that you need a vacation or better time management. But you try and it doesn’t work. If you can afford to go on vacation you come back dreading a life you want to escape, navigating systems that demand everything while offering little in return. People keep telling you to practice “self-care” but it just feels like another item on your endless to-do list or another fruitless hit on your bank balance.

Let’s find a different way to be in relationship with your work, your community, and yourself.

Anxiety Counselling

It’s 3 AM, and your mind is a carousel of what-ifs…

Tomorrow’s presentation, that text you haven’t responded to, the state of the world, your family’s expectations, questioning whether or not you’re “falling behind” in life… Each thought connects to another, and another, until you’re tangled in a web of worry that feels impossible to escape.

Sometimes, just existing feels overwhelming. We hear you! And we want to support you through this. Let’s take a look at how we can start the shift, together.

Grief Counselling

The world has a way of telling us how grief should look, feel, and most importantly, how long it should last.

Grief rarely travels alone. When we sit with loss, we often find ourselves holding multiple layers of grief, each teaching us something about what matters. Lets tend to grief with the complexity and care they deserve, honoring the intentionality they’re bidding within us.

Chronic Pain & Chronic Fatigue Counselling

Some days are better than others, but there’s always this underlying current of having to negotiate with your body about what’s possible.

Let’s redefine your relationship with your body; reprocess underlying neural pathways that contribute to your chronic pain, fatigue and reactions; and cultivate the practices and systems to build a life that works with, not against, your current reality.

Trauma Counselling

Maybe it shows up as hypervigilance – always scanning for danger, never quite able to relax. Or maybe it’s the opposite – feeling disconnected, floating through life like you’re watching it happen to someone else. Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget, carrying stories that aren’t just personal but ancestral, collective, systemic.

And beneath it all, maybe there’s a voice whispering: “Is healing even possible for someone like me?”

Yes! You set the pace. We can reimagine what’s possible, both personally and collectively.

Identity and Personal Growth Counselling

Maybe you’re questioning everything about yourself. Your identity, your path, your place in the world. You find yourself straddling different cultures, different expectations, different versions of yourself – never quite finding belonging anywhere.

The questions keep coming. Who am I really? Which parts of me are authentic, and which parts did I create to survive? What is my purpose beyond productivity? What do I want my life to mean? Why do I feel like a different person in different spaces? Lets figure that out, together.

Q&A

The FAQs

While there are general guidelines for how each therapy might support particular concerns, everybody experiences these therapies differently. Exploration and play are core values of Venturous, and we encourage you to experiment with us to see what works and what doesn’t. You can consult with your therapist about what might be a good start for your particular context and we’ll explore these options with you. That being said, go with your gut! If you’re feeling drawn to a particular type of therapy, let’s start there!

Anti-oppressive therapy at Venturous acknowledges and addresses how systemic context, your intersecting identities of privilege and/or oppression, and our relationships impact mental health. Our approach considers your whole identity and lived experience, recognizing that healing happens within the context of social justice and collective care.

Venturous integrates multiple therapeutic approaches (EMDR, somatic, nature-based, art & play therapy) while maintaining a strong commitment to anti-carceral, intersectional, feminist therapy. Our counsellors receive ongoing training in intersectional feminism and anti-colonial frameworks, unlearning alongside you to provide culturally responsive care.

Consults are a great way to do a vibe check with us before diving head first into our counselling work. Your comfortability with your counsellor and the ways in which we can build a trusting, collaborative relationship are the key indicators of therapeutic effectiveness.

We highly recommend doing a consult with us first for virtual sessions, and all in-person sessions must be preceded with a consult. This way we can give you important info about our office and other necessary information about in-person sessions beforehand.

If you have any questions about consults, please email the practitioner you are hoping to consult with or connect@venturouscounselling.com. We’ve also created a free PDF guide with everything you need to know to get the most of your consult  here  (scroll to the bottom!).

That’s totally fine! Your counsellor will collaborate with you to determine what practices might support where you’re at, your personal preferences, and your goals. There’s no right or wrong way to engage or experiment with these practices and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

We have a standard 24-hour cancellation policy. That means if you need to cancel or reschedule your session, you need to give us at least 24-hours notice or the full fee of the session will be charged.

If you are late but are able to attend within the first 15 minutes of your session, you can still use the rest of your time of the session for the full fee. If you are late beyond the first 15 minutes of session, your session will be considered a no show as we’ll have to reschedule to another time. This is to ensure that we have adequate time and space to wrap up our work without you feeling rushed, heightened, or unprepared as you transition out of session.
